In 1964, Jerry Garcia and Sandy Rothman a bluegrass journey, leaving Palo Alto, California in Garcia’s white 1961 Chevrolet Corvair. Garcia and Rothman left Palo Alto, California to head south to Los Angeles, California to meet up with Clarence and Roland White and the Kentucky Colonels. The young bluegrassers headed east across the United States, leaving Los Angeles with the Kentucky Colonels, who are in another car (standup bass on roof), driving through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. There were no gigs in any of those states but they did park and pick at rest stops.
